The Rob Allen Scorpia Rail Gun is a great choice for a diver who wants an amazing brand that is great quality yet at an affordable price point. The Rob Allen Scorpia's barrel is made from aircraft grade aluminium with a super thin yet strong wall. It performs at its best on small to medium sized fish however will still perform when confronted with larger fish. This particular gun is designed for shallow reef diving where it can be manoeuvred quickly and quietly which is why the length only goes up to 110cm. When you are in shallow reef areas, you really don't want a long gun as it will have too much range so the Scorpia is perfect choice for around rock walls and reefs.
The "Rail" in rail gun, means that there is a carved out rail down the length of the barrel where the spear sits which allows the spear to be guided out when shot making it more accurate. Don't be fooled though, your gun is only as accurate as you are! Equipped with a single 16mm rubber in the single muzzle gives the perfect amount of power needed. However if you want to add more power you can use a 18mm or 20mm rubber. The dyneema bridle in the rubber is what hooks in to the notch of the spear to pull the spear forward when fired and the rubber gives it the power to do so.
The spring steel shaft is a 7mm in thickness and is extremely durable and comes with two notch's for the bridle to fit in. Attaching the shaft to the gun is a monofilament line that is rated to 180kg's and this is then attached to the muzzle underneath the barrel. Holding the mono tight to the gun when the shaft is in the gun is a line release. This holds the line out of the way so it does not tangle and will release when the gun is fired. There is a safety catch on the handle of the gun that sits just above the trigger mechanism, this is to be used carefully and not to be relied on. Only load your gun when you are ready to shoot, do not load, flick the safety on and then get ready, if the safety catch fails, it could be potentially very dangerous.
