In conjunction with a bait pump, this is employed. The yabbies are left in the sieve as sand passes through. When operating in deeper water, you can fasten a rope from the floating sieve to your waist or leg.

The sieve can be also given float by adding a 16" bicycle tyre tube or another flexible flotation device, to enable pumping in deeper water. Electrical zip ties can be used to attach these.
