Fishing Reel Care Tips

  • Maintain the lubrication of your reel! Reel oil is an outstanding product when it comes to extending the life of your best spinning reel and preventing corrosion to moving parts. Oil should be applied to the shaft, maintenance port, and line roller bearing. Lubricated sprays (like Inox) are another nice alternative, but avoid using degreasers like WD-40.
  • It's critical to clean your reel after each trip on the lake to eliminate any salt, sand, or dirt buildup. Any residue on the reel can be removed with a mild spray or wipe clean with freshwater. Lock the drag and avoid using high pressure hose settings when cleaning your reel, since this can push the sand and salt deeper into the reel.
  • It's usually a good idea to inspect your rod guides after each session to ensure they're in good working order. Examine the inserts and frames for cracks, rust, or corrosion.
  • After each use, apply a drop of reel oil or silicone spray to the line roller bearing. This will keep rust and a noisy reel at bay during your next session!
  • When you're not on the water, store your reels in a neoprene reel cover available from Davos Tackle. Neoprene reel covers keep fishing reels safe and out of direct sunshine, which can harm your line if exposed for an extended amount of time.

Regular maintenance and TLC might mean the difference between landing that monster fish and having your line snap in the heat of battle!
