Zodias is Shimano's core bass rod line, and the 26 model is the third generation - the first full model change in six years. The emphasis is on balance, light weight, sensitivity and casting accuracy, and the 2026 update chases that hard: a redesigned rear grip and lightened components deliver a 14.7 per cent improvement in balance over the previous Zodias, and the spinning models pick up smaller-diameter, lighter guides that save roughly 1.5g on their own.
The blanks use Hi-Power X, diagonally wrapped carbon tape in an X pattern on the outer layer that resists blank twist and keeps casting stable and accurate under load, with Hi-Power X Solid reinforcing solid tips where fitted. The hollow, one-piece moulded Carbon Monocoque grip carries fine vibration straight through to the hand, the spinning grip is a compact up-locking design, and a new in-house closed-structure hook keeper reduces line tangling across different hook shapes. The finish is a unified matte-black stealth look.
The spin range spans ultra-light finesse work on the 270UL through to heavier presentations on the 270MH, and while Zodias is a bass line by design it covers a lot of Australian light lure fishing - bream, bass, estuary perch and similar, though certainly not limited to those.
A note on the joints: Shimano lists all Zodias as two-section rods, but there are two different builds. Models without a numeric suffix use a butt or grip joint, which gives a longer closed length; models with a "2" suffix use a centre joint and pack down much shorter. The closed length in each spec block below tells you which you are getting.
