Christened on the first outing.
I picked up one of these to pair with a 9' Pfleuger Trion to target Aust Salmon and Tailor off the beach using spinners and poppers.
Firstly the 50 was a good match for size and gear ratio. Retrieve was smooth and I wasn't cranking my arm off to get the retrieve rate I needed. I have put on 20lb braid. I hooked my first Salmon, which promptly headed for the horizon. Line peeled off smoothly but I was able gradually crank up the pressure until I had enough control to turn the fish back.
In terms of bringing the fish to the beach I found my only minor criticism with the reel; the size if the handle. With a little rain, salt spray and/or fish slime the handle is a little small and potentially slippery, but it wasn't too much of a problem.
Next, having landed the fish, the reel copped a dose of fine south west sand while I was unhooking. A quick splash of salt water and all was well. No later signs of sand or water ingress.
Following Salmon 1, several more followed in quick succession. The reel continued to please.
I've only given the reel that one good workout, but for the price point I am very happy with the performance.
