The new Gara Modular Sprint fin is a shorterversion of the Impulse fin, which proved to behugely popular with freedivers worldwide, bothamateurs and the most demanding professionalfreedivers. This is also confirmed by the largenumber of articles dedicated to it by specializedjournalists in sector magazines. Sprint is designedto meet the needs of freedivers and spearfisherswho practice this sport in wintertime and when afin as long as Impulse is not necessary. Both finshave been designed using expensive finite elementsoftware programs that allow highly complex andequally high-performance sections to be defined. The blade of Sprint, like the Impulse blade, is madeof a single thermoplastic elastomer, althoughit would be more correct to refer to an angledsublayer and an overlay. The sublayer follows theshape and dimensions of almost the entire fin. Ithas a uniform thickness and a flexible longitudinalpropulsion wing of variable length. In contrast, the so-called overlay covers the propulsionwing selectively and has a thickness that slopesfrom the maximum value to zero longitudinallytowards the tip of the blade. As a result, the finoffers a new way of storing and releasing elasticpotential energy, greatly assisting movementof the freediver’s legs and thus guaranteeing anet improvement in propulsive output. Whendisassembled, the blade and foot pocket occupythe space of a normal snorkeling fin.
